The malls
are a
brimming,
and fir trees fill
homes
ready for
trimming.
Dazzling lights
illuminate
against a darkened
sky,
and gifts are
wrapped for exchanging,
with yet more left
to buy.
The air is somehow
perfumed
with the joy of the
season,
but in the spirit
of celebration,
have we
forgotten the meaning?
How precious is
this time of year
when loved one
gather ‘round,
and homes are
fragranced with love
and adorned with a
merry sound.
Still, as wonderful
as this is, my Lord,
have we
overlooked You?
Not only is this a
holiday,
it is Your
birthday too!
We gaily exchange
presents,
but where is Your
gift?
There is so much
more to this time of year
than giving
our spirit’s a lift.
So, I have searched
and searched Lord,
but I cannot find a
gift fit for a King.
Shopping for the
Son of God,
I have found, is no
easy thing!
After many hours of
consideration
I was only able to
produce one gift for You.
The packaging is a
little tattered,
but the love
inside of it is true.
So, my Jesus, on
this Your birthday,
and every day
for as long as I shall live,
I give to You all
of me
with all I have to
give.
