God's Treasure
Chest
If today God were to have
left
a chest of treasure
outside my door,
with a key and a note
saying,
"You may take one piece,
nothing more.
For I heard in your
prayers,
those cast before Heaven
above,
you are in need of a
special gift for a dear lady,
one that will express your
love.
Now, I will loan you My
chest of treasure,
and you may take one
piece, it is true.
Just remember, the choice
of the right piece
will be left up to
you."
I would have searched that
treasure chest
for a gift that would tell
you just how I feel.
I would have sought for
you something unpretentious,
with a simple, yet elegant
appeal.
I would not have taken a
diamond brooch
for you to wear upon your
lapel.
Nor would I have chosen a
perfect pearl,
still protected tenderly
by its' oyster shell.
I would not have selected
a pillow
trimmed in satin and lace
to rest beneath your head.
Nor would I have chosen
dangling ruby earrings,
dazzled in a stunning
shade of red.
I would have passed over
the brilliant charm
that signified the month
of your birth.
Not one of these priceless
treasures mentioned
could have begun to tell
of your worth.
I know if given that
chance the gift for you
that I would have
chose:
From God's chest of
treasure,
I would have picked for
you a rose.
