You do not construct
buildings that tower high above the land.
Instead, as a teacher, you
create castles in the sand.
You take each grain of
knowledge, and educate your students on its' worth,
showing them the various
shapes that can be formed with the loose earth.
"The sands are
representations of opportunity," they hear you confidingly
say.
"You will use the skills
you learn here to build your own futures someday."
You direct their
imaginations to bay of the beach crowning the sea,
whispering, "Your choices
are only as limited as you allow them to be.
With patience and effort,
you can mold the castle of your own fate.
However, the tides reclaim
any unused sand in time, so do not wait."
You take your students
hopes and dreams into the palm of your hand,
guiding them as they draft
the designs for their own castles in the sand.
Although their voyages may
some day take them to a faraway place,
you are instilling in them
architectural traits they can forever retrace.
So when the tides roll in,
and graduation takes your students out to sea,
they will know how to
create their own castles in the sands of
opportunity.
