The First Christmas Romance

He noticed the flush of her cheeks from the cool night air.

Her face was aglow with the tender love only a new mother can fare.

He drank in her sweet scent as he softly kissed the top of her head.

She gently brushed against his arm as she put her new babe to bed.

He stared down at the tiny miracle that would alter his eternal life.

Then he turned to offer an affectionate embrace to his virgin wife.

He never knew he could love a woman with such a fierce devotion.

However, the events of this night filled him with unspeakable emotion.

In his arms, he carefully cradled the mother of God's own Son.

He had fallen deeper in love with her as she gave birth to the Holy One.

He smiled at the peaceful breathing of the baby asleep in the feeding tray.

He had nothing to offer Him on His first night other than a pillow of hay.

As he pulled his new bride closer, lulled by rhythmic beating of her heart,

he closed his eyes to thank the Divine Director for granting him this part.

The angels of Heaven quietly gathered to witness love's silent dance,

as the holy couple slept softly in the arms of the first Christmas romance.
