The Necklace
I have a simple
gold chain suspended from my neck,
lying
against my chest.
From
it,
a
golden cross charm dangles in gentle rest.
Some see it
as a symbol of my faith,
others just a piece of
jewelry.
However,
that little adorning treasure
means
so incredibly much more to me.
I will
reach for it and enclose it in the palm of my
hand
from
time to time,
occasionally bringing it to my lips
to kiss the
miniature replica of my Divine.
My cross
charm is an ever present reminder
of
what could have been.
A reminder
of the price
that was
paid for my sin.
It is a
tiny portrait of love,
the most
precious thing I wear.
When I look
at my charm,
I know it
should have been me hanging there.
That is why
against my heart
that
precious golden cross will always reside.
It is an
open-locket depiction
of my
Savior who lives there inside.
